If you are not delivering SIL yet, you cannot start until you are registered and audited: there is no transition period for new entrants.
The two dates, side by side
Most confusion here comes from treating 1 July as "the deadline". It isn't, not any more. It is the date the rules started applying. The date that still requires action is 1 October.

Neither date applies to support coordination. Mandatory registration for support coordinators is paused pending further reform. It has no set date, and writing about it as though it does is itself a common error worth avoiding.

Neither date requires anything further from you. Your obligations run on your existing audit cycle under the SIL Practice Standards, not on 1 October.
Unregistered, and intending to apply
Apply before 1 October 2026. The application itself takes real processing time on top of whatever remains of that window, so the safe move is to start now, not close to the date.
Unregistered, and not intending to apply
You must stop delivering SIL after 1 October 2026 if you have not applied. Plan-managed billing remains the standard pathway for many other supports, so this is usually a pivot, not a full close.
New entrant, not yet delivering SIL
There is no transition period for you. You cannot deliver SIL until you are registered and audited, whatever today's date is.
What the application actually involves
Registration runs through the NDIS Commission, against the Practice Standards, with an approved quality auditor: a Stage 1 desktop audit first, then a Stage 2 on-site audit.
